Stephanie Simon, LMFT

Stephanie enjoys providing therapy to couples, families, and individuals, ages 12 and up.

Always curious about human interaction and social relationships, Stephanie was drawn to therapy for its ability to heal through connection and trust. Her life and work experiences have led her to believe that people find meaning in connection with others and in acting in accordance with their values. Having experienced several work and life transitions, Stephanie went from thinking a lot about large-scale societal insecurity as a teacher and researcher to working on a more intimate scale as a therapist with people grappling with personal challenges. In this work, she finds it a privilege to witness the transformative impact of building trusting relationships and taking a curious and openness stance towards vulnerability and uncertainty.

Stephanie works with individuals, partners, and families coping with a variety of challenges. She has worked with people struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, adjustment challenges, life transitions, addiction, attachment issues, relationship and communication issues, and multicultural and gender identity issues. Integrating narrative therapy, internal family systems, and acceptance and commitment therapy, her approach prioritizes the whole person and their particular experiences and circumstances. Respecting that therapy is a vulnerable and sometimes daunting endeavor, Stephanie uses warmth, humility, and humor to create a trusting and non-judgmental environment.

Stephanie holds a M.S. in Couples and Family Therapy from the University of Oregon, which is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Marriage and Family Therapy Education (COAMFTE) of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT). She has worked at the Oregon Social Learning Center on a research project focused on intergenerational family dynamics. Prior to becoming a therapist, she obtained a Ph.D. in Cultural Geography at the University of Kentucky and worked for several years as an International Studies lecturer and researcher in the Netherlands.

Out of the office, you might find Stephanie spending time by the water, with friends, cooking an elaborate meal to share, or fulfilling the every whim of two large cats.
